The White Dorper sheep shed their wool-like hair during the warmer seasons, with some shedding totally and some retaining a light covering on their backs. The internal parasite problem is minimal, thus requiring limited labor input to maintain healthy animals.
The ewes require limited to no assistance during the birthing process and have strong motherly instincts, with substantial milk supply to give the new newborns animals a good start in life. The lambs are usually small in size when born , but within several days, will have increased in size.
Depending upon the protein available during the breeding, the ewes with access to higher protein feeds will ordinarily have multiple births. The ewes ordinarily are willing and able to maintain multiple births.
All in all, the White Dorper Sheep are very adaptable to their environment. This includes their ability to adapt to being guarded by the large guard dogs and other guard animals seen within the area, which are a necessity, due to predator problems, and even neighborhood dogs that are allowed to roam freely. |
