| In the mid 1990's the sheep raisers began to notice other sheep breeds that were easier to care for and would give more meat. The breed that was noticed was the Dorper breed which came from South Africa. These sheep could deal with the Texas heat, its vast areas of dry climates,
and its vast areas of limited forage. The Dorper breed was created by crossing a Dorset Horn sheep, which was chosen because of its carcass traits and a Blackhead Persian sheep, which was chosen because of its hardiness. This cross generally created lambs having white bodies and black heads, thus Dorper Sheep. However,
crossbreeding also creates mutations, and in this instance, totally white sheep, thus the White Dorper. The Dorper and White Dorper both have the same carcass traits and hardiness, with the main difference being color. |

The White Dorper Sheep are docile animals, easily to maintain and handle within a small area or on a larger scale. They can be easily trained to respect electric fencing, thereby allowing for grazing around and in between barns and outbuildings, trees such as pecan and fruit orchards,
even areas within larger residential yards. These sheep have a natural high conversion rate of feed to meat, based more on quantity of feed available than on quality of feed. Best results can be seen with both an abundant feed source and a small amount of a high protein supplement.
